Through our Evangelism and Social Outreach Ministry, members of St. George have been actively involved with our sister church, Spirit of Hope Detroit, in serving the needs of the homeless in downtown Detroit. We have committed to leading and serving in their soup kitchen on the 4th Saturday of every other month and having been doing so since January of 2010. We feed an average of 200 people each visit. We also bring with us donated clothing to pass out to those in need. Most needed is men's clothing (men's blue jeans, t-shirts and jackets).
With winter approching we need sock, underwear, jeans, shirts, coats and any type of toiletry item you may have, especially razors, soaps, toothpaste, shampoo.

Our next Soup Kitchen Serving Event
is scheduled for Saturday, November 26, 2011 Meet at St. George parking lot at 9:30 am.
Approximately 14,500 people in the Livingston County go to bed hungry every night.
A large number of these people live in Brighton.
St. George is starting this special ministry with a goal of being part of the solution for bringing hunger to an end in Livingston County. We will distribute boxes of food and additional items provided by local community merchants on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month. Distribution will take place from
9 a.m. - noon. Park in the church parking lot, come in through the back door entrance and follow the signs. An elevator is available for those who struggle going up stairs. Qualifications for coming to the food pantry are that you are in need of food. If you are hungry we will feed you. We are servicing the Brighton and Whitmore Lake area.
For more information about volunteering or donations,
please contact: Yvonne Cavalli - 810-588-3529 or
Sheri Circele - 586-854-1672
We’re open Saturdays, 9am – 12 noon
Our food bank program is an ongoing collection of canned food, like soups, and non-perishable food items, for families in need. We donate the food items to Gleaners Community Food Pantry. They are always in need of a wide variety of food items. The food items can be placed in the white food bank box near the front entrance of the church. Please feel free to donate non-perishable food items as often as you can. Click herefor more information about Gleaner's Community Food Bank.
(Please check the expiration dates of all canned goods carefully).
St. George also has a group of volunteers that donate their time at Gleaner's once a month on Saturdays. For more information on donating your time to help out at Gleaner's, contact Yvonne Cavalli - 810-588-3529
The Preschool is located in Spirit of Hope Church in Detroit, our mission partner.
Sunshine Community Preschool needs your help!
Cards with needed items are on the table in the Fellowship area at the church. You are invited to select an item to be purchased for the preschool. You may then place a check, made out to Sunshine Community Preschool, or cash into an envelope accompanied by the card you selected. Place the envelope into the Sunshine box on the table. Monetary donations are also welcomed.
